Local campaigner Lucy Allan is encouraging youngsters to follow in the footsteps of Abraham Darby by becoming an apprentice iron master as part of National Apprenticeship Week.
Miss Allan, a specialist in saving failing businesses, has teamed up with Wrekin Shell Mouldings, who are looking for two apprentices at their Telford plant on Halesfield in their machine shop and foundry.
“Apprenticeships are a brilliant way for young people to learn new skills while earning money and paving their way for the future.
“Working at Wrekin Shell Moulding is a fantastic opportunity – they’re an expanding company who are looking for their next generation of workers.
“Telford is famous for being the birthplace of the Industrial Revolution and that spirit of innovation still thrives today in companies like this.”
“Opportunities like these apprenticeships lead to real long-term career prospects.”
The Production Manager of Wrekin Shell Moulding Gerry Motherwell said: “We’ve recently struggled to find young people to fill our current vacancies.
“We’re looking someone who wants to work hard and come in every day and be the future of this company.”
Mr Motherwell believes that apprenticeships are an excellent way to help young people mature and improve their long term prospects. He said: “I agree with Michael Gove that we need to go back to basics. Give me a child and I will mould the man.”
Lucy has asked to attend the Telford jobs fair on the 27th March at Telford International Centre where she will have more details of these and other vacancies.
